What is out-of-network Physical Therapy?
Out-of-network physical therapy allows clients to pay directly for services, bypassing insurance involvement. This model offers more personalized care, flexible treatment options, and transparent pricing without the limitations imposed by insurance policies. It empowers clients to prioritize their recovery without worrying about session caps or coverage restrictions.
Why choose out-of-network Physical Therapy?
Your health, your choice. Let’s work together to find what’s best for YOU—not what insurance dictates.
While health insurance is essential for protecting you from the unexpected, we all know the system isn’t perfect. Dealing with billing issues, insurance limitations, and back-and-forth between providers can be frustrating. Out-of-network physical therapy offers a way to bypass these hassles, providing benefits that often outweigh going through an in-network clinic.
Benefits of Out-of-Network Physical Therapy:
1:1 Care
Every minute of your session at Trailblaze PT is spent with a Doctor of Physical Therapy—no passing off to aides or techs. With a full 60 minutes of dedicated, individualized care, your treatment will never feel rushed, giving you the attention and support you deserve.
Transparency
Trust and transparency are key to a successful recovery. We discuss our rates upfront, so you know exactly what to expect—no hidden costs or surprise bills. Your treatment plan won’t be limited or cut short by insurance, ensuring you get the care you need.
Customized Treatment
Being out-of-network means we’re free to create a treatment plan personalized to your specific injury, goals, and lifestyle. With no insurance restrictions, we focus entirely on providing attentive, goal-oriented care tailored to you.
Better Value
Quality over quantity. Without the pressure of high-volume scheduling, we can concentrate on delivering the best care in each session. With more hands-on time and education, you’ll likely need fewer visits to achieve long-lasting results compared to a traditional clinic.
Can I Still Submit to My Insurance for Reimbursement?
Yes! Although we don’t contract with insurance companies, you can apply your payments toward your deductible and may receive reimbursement through your out-of-network benefits. We’ll provide everything you need to submit your claims.

Do I need a prescription to see you?
Nope! South Carolina and North Carolina are direct access states, meaning you do not need a referral from another provider in order to receive care from a physical therapist. We are trained as first-access providers – meaning we can determine if your condition will improve with physical therapy and will help get you to the right provider if we’re not it.
Some insurance companies and physical therapy clinics still require referrals, which can increase the amount of time before you are seen and the overall cost of your care. Schedule a free phone consultation to discuss if you think you might need to see your physician or need imaging first. If you do have a referral already, you can see ANY provider you want…regardless of any specific clinic or provider mentioned. Give us a call!
Do you take my insurance?
We are an out-of-network provider, meaning we do not bill your insurance.
We chose this model because the current healthcare system places too many restrictions on therapists, making it impossible to provide the best care to reach your unique goals. This often looks like providers treating multiple patients at once, for a shorter period of time than appropriate, which decreases the quality of care. Furthermore, many insurance companies will deny the performance-based treatments and dry needling that Trailblaze PT & Performance delivers. You deserve better than allowing an insurance company to dictate your care.
We are happy to prepare a superbill for you to submit to your insurance for out-of-network reimbursement.
How do I submit for out-of-network reimbursement?
Trailblaze PT & Performance is not contracted with any insurance companies. Call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask the following questions. You may already know some of the answers:
• Do I have a deductible? How much is it? How much of my deductible have I already met?
• What are my physical therapy benefits?
• What is my out-of-network percentage of coverage?
• Do I need a written referral from my doctor?
• Do I need prior authorization before I start physical therapy?
• Is there a special form I need in order to be reimbursed? Where do I send this?
Please contact Trailblaze PT & Performance if you need help with this.
What should I expect from my first visit?
Your physical therapist will sit down with you and listen to your current issue(s) and past history. Then, they will perform a comprehensive movement assessment, begin appropriate treatment, and partner with you to create a plan and reach your unique goals.
What should I wear?
Wear workout or other comfortable clothing that allows you to move. Shorts are ideal if you are seeing us for a lower body issue. A tank top or sports bra that allows access to your neck and shoulder blades is ideal if you are coming in for a shoulder or neck issue.
I was discharged from physical therapy elsewhere but still feel like I haven’t reached my goals. What now?
If you’re still not where you want to be after being discharged from physical therapy, our Adventure Ready Membership program can help! This program includes 1 visit per month, tailored to focus on your unique goals. Whether it’s continuing to progress recently rehabbed injuries or addressing a new orthopedic issue, these visits are designed to keep you moving forward and feeling your best.
